Listeria hysteria; navigating Obama-geddon

Hi Everyone:

ObamaHope you all survived Obamageddon relatively unscathed? I wish they would put signs up the week before he arrives. I am sure he doesn’t even realize the scale of actual chaos he causes us with his motorcades as he breezes through the streets of Los Angeles…but it doesn’t make it ok. I would happily donate to his campaign upon a promise that he only visits us once a year. I proudly voted for Obama last time around, but it didn’t mean I wanted him to show up all up the time. President Obama, please invite your donors to the White House; it is what they are all dreaming of anyway! I truly think everyone has had enough. I tried to research the amount of times POTUS has graced California with his presence, but spookily couldn’t find a solid answer. As Toyah Wilcox would say “It’s A Mystery”. So if anyone knows, please tweet us at @BritsinLA. Rumour has it the Obama’s may be house hunting in Palm Springs, so start your petitions now. NIMBY!

Apparently as of July 2014, Barack Obama has visited 46 of 50 states as president; the unvisited states that remain are Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Utah. Hint, hint…..

Total stoned fruit recall is in the headlines too (no, not medical marijuana infused smoothies!) I was terribly ill last weekend and was searching my memory for the culprit. It wasn’t until Craig informed me that peaches, plums, pluots and nectarines had been recalled statewide due to possible listeria contamination that it dawned on me. I had over-indulged in said foods. It has not been confirmed that I actually contracted listeria, however I displayed all the symptoms for 72 painful hours. To make matters worse, it mainly affected the organic stoned fruit; not so smug about my quest to be ‘organic only’ now! In fact I half wonder if the pesticides would have helped to protect me…. Either way, please check your fruits and be careful what you eat. My next diet is beer and pizza – seems so much safer!

Well done to Sandro Monetti and Thesy Surface who managed a very raucous crowd at our weekly pub quiz on Tuesday. It is not easy being the host, as it often turns into a bit of a pantomime with hecklers galore. So go easy on them if you plan to attend next Tuesday (one of them might be me!) The Pikey, 7617 Sunset Blvd, 90046 arrive for 7.30 pm.

We are also very excited about the DVD release of Dom Hemingway, starring Jude Law and Richard E. Grant. By the time this goes to press we will have celebrated by throwing a party at Hemingways in Hollywood. Fox Home Entertainment has generously hosted a screening and thrown in a few drinks and nibbles for Brits in LA, so make sure to check out our website for all the photos from the event.

If you have any questions or comments about anything I have mentioned here, feel free to drop me a line at eileen@Britsin.LA (no .com!), its always a pleasure to hear from you.

See you next time!

 Cheers!
