Welcome to LA!

Some of you have been asking lately what to do with family or friends when they come in in to town, well…

Flood alert? Not what she expected...

My niece, Megan arrived last week, and was picked up by my new fave car service – Regent Limos (www.regentlimoservice.com) to celebrate her 21st birthday here in the sunshine!

Now it’s been a few years since I’ve hung out with 21 year olds – so I started to rack my brain of things that she might like to do… So here’s a few fun things we got up to that I thought I’d share with you if you have youngsters coming to visit!!!

I happened to guest star on the TV show Hot In Cleveland on Thursday and pre-taped a few bits, but on Friday I took Megan to the live taping of the show. Now I’d never been in a live studio audience taping of a sitcom before and it was so much fun…. if you get a chance do it, take it. The warm up guy was so funny and to see the main actors working out their scenes right in front of you is quite magical. Here you will see even the pros aren’t always perfect with their lines – but it’s funny when they all start cracking up. You can get tickets to shows by visiting www.tvtickets.com and they are always free.

For the weekend, I took her to Palm Springs to get even more sun and a bit of shopping (However there were flood warnings all weekend and we finally got some much-needed rain.) So we called in for a bit of shopping at the desert outlets at Cabazon (www.cabazonoutlets.com) where she picked up 4 outfits for $100 (£61).

Back in LA on Monday, where she was able to get back on track with the real California with some sunbathing and reading (yes, she’s one of the few kids I know who still likes to read paperbacks), followed by a great dinner at my favourite restaurant in town, Cecconi’s (www.cecconiswesthollywood.com). If the beautiful meal and fine wines weren’t enough, we also scored 50% off using our Brits in LA Key-members discount. Do you have yours yet? If not, visit www.britsin.la for all the details. We finally ended up in a bar called eleven in West Hollywood for a night called MUSICAL Mondays  – where a lot of ex-Broadway stars get up and belt out showtunes. Very entertaining indeed!

Hangover Tuesdays were catered to very well with hair of the dogs back at Cecconi’s for our weekly Breakfast club where sunglasses weren’t necessarily warranted but definitely needed…. bloodshot is not a great color on me.

Wednesday we headed down to Venice beach to dip our toes in the Pacific followed by a pint or two at Venice Ale house, where we mingled with a cool hipster/skater crowd and were serenaded by a white Buddhist roller-skating guitar player. (Only in LA, right?) Not to mention the overpowering smell of copious amounts of the main product from Doctor Feelgood’s dispensaries.

We ended the trip with a Hollywood hop on/hop off bus tour (www.starlinebuses.com). Our tickets coset $345 for the day. We included a drop-off in Beverly Hills for a little retail therapy and a light lunch at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (famous for appearing in the movie Pretty Woman). All in all quite a fun day…..

Megan has now headed back to the airport and I’m getting back into a work mindset…until the next guest arrives, that is…..

Cheers!
