The late singer Amy Winehouse has been honored on what would have been her 31st birthday as a statue of her was unveiled in Camden Town.

The tragic star’s parents Mitch and Janis gathered with fans and friends, including ex- Eastenders star Barbara Windsor, as they paid an emotional tribute to her.

The life-size permanent representation, designed by Scott Eaton, was unveiled in the ceremony and depicts Amy with her trademark beehive.

The location of Camden was chosen because of Amy’s close ties to the area, and the house where she tragically died in July 2011 is just around the corner.

Amy’s dad Mitch said: “It is incredibly emotional to see Amy immortalized like this, but Scott has done an amazing job in capturing her. It is like stopping her in a beautiful moment in time.

He added: “Camden meant a lot to Amy and vice versa and to have her forever standing at the heart of the hustle and bustle of that area just fits.”

Amy died aged 27 after struggles with alcohol and drugs. An inquest into her death found that she died of accidental alcohol poisoning.

Her family later set up a charity, The Amy Winehouse Foundation, to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people.

We miss ‘our’ Amy terribly!
