Meet a Member: Gayle Davidson

Meet Gayle Davidson from London, UK who moved to LA 11 years ago to pursue music.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

Actually I didn’t like LA at all, I had visited ten years prior and found it intimidating and far too sprawling. However, I loved New York City, and I lived there for 2 years before moving to LA. It took about six months or so to really settle here, but then after that I found myself surrounded by so many like-minded great people, that for the first time in my life I felt like I belonged somewhere. It took having a few great British friends here to really make that happen. If you know one or two people to start off it really helps. Now I love it and it’s my home.

What one thing do you miss from home?

I miss the historic London Streets, (especially Soho) and I miss walking around  London and bumpinginto old friends at the pub or in the street. I also miss the English Countryside and the coziness of thewinters (but not the weather)

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus the UK?

I feel that In LA you can be way more open about what you do or what you aspire to do. Your dreams are not shut down like they are sometimes in UK. People are way more positive, even if sometimes it’s not 100% genuine, it lifts your spirit. I find the UK oppressive at times. However I do love London and have amazing friends that live there.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

Yes, it’s a lake that I love to walk around, It feels like you are in the countryside. It’s the Lake at Franklin Canyon (located at Mulholland and Coldwater Canyon). It’s really magical.  If I’m feeling down I’ll take a drive over there and get lost for a while in nature.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

I would suggest to really do your homework, especially with visas and driving (all that stuff creeps up on you and if you are coming here to fulfill your dreams, it will get you down). Getting started is not easy because even if you have good credit in the UK, you are starting from scratch here, so be wise and sort out as much as you can before you get here. Of course it’s good having BiLA at your disposal, so many great questions can be answered before you arrive. Other than that I highly recommend living here.   The weather is obviously amazing, and there is so much to explore…including your dreams.

Finally, can we find you on the internet?
