Brits get hot in February….

February has certainly been the month for British people in LA – didn’t we do well at the Oscars?!

I had the pleasure of attending  the British Consulate’s Great British Film Reception honoring the British nominees and all the UK contributions to film and creative industries. It was a lovely afternoon at the London Hotel although the star of the event was definitely the Aston Martin Vanquish, which was proudly flying the British flag!

The Getty Museum launched their highly anticipated  ‘J. M. W. Turner: Painting Set Free’ the day after the Oscars – I do think the film Mr Turner was overlooked during this years award season, don’t you? But at least we can enjoy this exhibition, which is a stunning collection of over 60 of Turner’s key later-life paintings. The majority have been generously loaned by London’s Tate Gallery. It was packed to the rafters on the opening night so I am already  planning to return again to have a proper look. Make sure to visit the gift shop too – as there are some really lovely purchases to be had. I am delighted with my Turner trivet and tea cup!   I highly recommend you take advantage of this remarkable show by a great British artist being here – as it really is a beautiful collection and a real treat to have it on our doorstep.  Admission is free, although parking is not cheap so carpool if you can! Visit www.getty.edu for all the details.

A new British pub called the Lost Knight has opened in Echo Park to rave reviews. The place boasts décor sourced from antique shops throughout Britain and has expansive tap room and lounge bar. I also hear that they specialize in artisan British brews and will have a fab cocktail menu focusing on classic London Dry and Old Tom Gins. Their Stargazy pie is already the talk of the town. Craig and I are planning to check it out next week so we will report back soon. Even better for football fans, they are planning to show the football. The Lost Knight is located at: 1538 W Sunset Boulevard.

MARILYN-bila-adDue to popular demand “Marilyn – My Secret” is back at the Macha Theatre for a limited run – it is only running until March 7th so catch it whilst you can as it is truly brilliant – Erin Gavin is probably one of the best Marilyns I have ever seen!

Brits in LA Pub Quiz is also back – every other Tuesday at The Pikey. Sandro kicked off our new season to a great crowd including pub quiz fanatic Ron Jeremy. Last year’s reigning champions, the Pikey Blinders snagged the jackpot yet again! Come along and try and kick them off their pedestal!  All the info can be found on our website www.Britsin.LA.

As always, if you have any questions or comments drop us a line at BritsinLA@gmail.com

Cheers!
