rupert-everettBRITISH actor Rupert Everett has finally come out of hiding and is joining the cast of historic drama The Musketeers, it’s been confirmed!

The 55-year-old shot to fame in 1981 for his role in the public schoolboy drama Another Country, though he is best known for roles such as My Best Friend’s Wedding and voicing Prince Charming in the Shrek films. Rupert will be joining the show’s third season as King Louis XVIII’s illegitimate brother Philippe Achille, the Marquis de Feron, who rules as a corrupt governor in Paris.

Rupert said of his new role: “I’m very excited to be joining the cast of The Musketeers for the new series. I love the show and am really looking forward to working with the team.”

In February, the third season of the period adventure was confirmed to return to the small screen after receiving financial backing from BBC Worldwide and BBC America.

The action-packed drama is a modern-day adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 tale of The Three Musketeers and follows a group of soldiers – D’Artagnan, Athos,  Aramis and Porthos – who are trained to fight for King Louis XIII.

Rupert joins the current stars Luke Pasqualino, Tom Burke, Howard Charles and Santiago Cabrera who play the four heroes, as well as Alexandra Dowling, Ryan Gage, Maimie McCoy and Tamla Kari who are also part of the cast.

In a recent interview with RadioTimes.com, Rupert spoke about Hollywood’s love of “posh” British actors and why other English period dramas such as Downton Abbey have been so successful.

“What the Americans want to see of the English – they don’t want to see snaggle-toothed working class people, obviously,” he explained.

“They want to see upper class people – that’s what they want. That’s why they love Downton Abbey.

“[Americans] want to see upper class films full stop and showbusiness is about demand.”

He continued: “The danger of our world is it gets so furious and angry about something – it’s suddenly ‘where are the working class actors?’

“But they’re all over the place and doing extremely well, I would say.”

I look forward to seeing Everett back on screen!
