Celebration of Nigel Laskey set for Sunday at the American Legion

Sunday, June 28th  brings a memorial service to honor the life of Nigel Laskey, at the American Legion, 5309 Sepulveda Blvd. in Culver City from 2-5pm. All are welcome.

Laskey, a larger-than-life South Londoner passed away at 59 earlier this month.

Nigel-Laskey-chelsea-stripNigel moved to Los Angeles three decades ago and was well known within in the British community. As one local told the BW : “Once you met him, you never forgot him.” Nigel was a big man with a big personality who frequently turned heads when he walked into a bar – not least because of his cropped platinum blonde hair. Nicknamed ‘The Pope of Palms’ during his time living in Culver City, he was a regular patron of both Joxer Daly’s and The Cozy Inn, a man who loved good food, drink, conversation and music. He was also a lover of automobiles, and for a while could be seen cruising round town in his beloved Rolls Royce. As one tribute on Facebook said this week: “This funny, crazy, lovable man will be missed by so many people, close and far.”
