Tips for visiting the Springs….

I hope you all had a good 4th of July. I spent mine in Palm Springs.  If you haven’t made it to out to the desert yet I highly recommend it for a bit of R&R (rest and relaxation) or just to party as it’s recently become quite the mecca for fun weekend getaways. The Ace Hotel is a fun place to stay with affordable rooms and a great poolside party scene. If you prefer it a little more tranquil and grown up the Parker is definitely worth checking out. Or consider renting a private house for you and your friends – this can work out a lot cheaper than separate hotel rooms. Try www. airbnb.com.  The weather is really heating up there now – it was 118 degrees last weekend – so make sure to pack lots of sunscreen!

MUNCHIES

Copley’s restaurant. This is Cary Grant’s old stable houses turned into a restaurant with great great decor, service and the food is pretty spectacular. Ask to be seated outside close to the fire pit.  Mister Parker’s at The Parker Hotel has a wonderful ambiance and a great Maitre D’ who will entertain you with his stories about old Palm Springs. If you are looking for an authentic, classic Palm Springs experience Melvyn’s is the place. Sinatra, Dean martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. used to hang out here back in the day, it’s tucked away close to the mountains in the Ingleside Inn. They have a great crooner most nights, singing standards like ‘My Way’ ‘The Lady Is A Tramp’  and ‘That’s Amore’.  For the late owls, both the Riviera hotel and The Ace hotel tend to have a great night scene going off with DJs and late night poolside antics. Also try to take in a brunch at Cheeky’s, although there maybe a line as they don’t take reservations. Another good bet is Norma’s at the Parker Hotel order the Wagg-Waa! waffles with blueberry and bananas creme brulé on top, it’s “Killa-good!” and great Bloody Marys too, to nurse your hangover or a perhaps a Bellini to get the afternoon started off right.

Spend Spend Spend

On the way home, it’s always fun to stop off at the Premium outlets at Cabazon, great for discounted designer gear from Gucci, Prada and Rock and Republic, or just essentials like work-out gear from Nike, Adidas or Puma, new trainers, or socks and underwear from Saks, Barney’s or Calvin Klein and don’t forget to stop off for a famous date shake from Hadley’s fruit orchard.

All in all Palm Springs is a no-brainer getaway from the hustle and bustle of LA life.

WHEN I’M CLEANING WINDOWS

Thanks to one of our member’s recommendations I recently tried a new window cleaning service called “Window Dude”. Unlike at home where we tend to have a window cleaner come regularly, it’s not something you think of very often…thanks to the weather gods. I get mine done once a year, maybe twice. These guys do both inside and out, skylights AND your shower cubicle.

They are offering Brits in LA members a free gutter clean-out too if you mention us when you book. Just visit windowdude.com or call him here  (818)-584-1969  info@windowdude.com
