Joys of the season: Sunday roasts, the Rain Room and cool giveaways

I am sure I am not the only one who feels like November has snuck up on them and taken them by surprise?

I would usually blame the lack of seasonal changes, however Autumn has certainly announced its chilly arrival. Either way, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas is not far behind! We will be posting a list of our favorite restaurants that will be open for the holidays so check in with us at www.britsin.la – and if you have a suggestion feel free to share with us.

This week I had a proper taste of home without leaving the LA City limits. I was lucky enough to snag tickets to LACMA’s latest exhibit the Rain Room (thanks Lena!). It is a truly remarkable experience, even for someone who grew up with April showers (and May showers, and June showers, and July showers …). Your ticket allows you an allotted time slot which lasts 15 minutes, then you are allowed to step onto the rainy area in groups of 8. The most magical thing is that unless you move too fast, you won’t get wet! There are sensors that detect human bodies, so the rain parts as you walk through. The sensation of rain is quite exhilarating, Lena and I both felt rather giddy on exiting. My description is really not doing it justice though, so I highly recommend you go and see and feel for yourself – tickets are selling out fast but it is here through till March. Visit LACMA.org for details.

We followed our bit o’culture with a Sunday Roast at the Pikey – delicious as always and Chef Ralph even gave us extra stuffing and gravy!

Our weekly Tuesday breakfast club that we present with Air New Zealand was a particularly special one this week as the lovely girls at the British Consulate arranged for us to have some poppies on hand for Remembrance Day; we were collecting on behalf of the Royal British Legion – so thank you to everyone who donated and to our lovely Bernard who went round with the tin! If you didn’t get one yet I will be bringing them to Breakfast Club again next week, or if that is too far for you, the British Consulate  has them available in their Century City offices.

We have some more great Goldenvoice giveaways going on at the moment. Tickets for The Charlatans, Jess Glynne, Public Image Ltd, Seal and Nick Lowe! So make sure to visit us on Facebook @BritsinLA to keep up to date.

We also have some great stuff planned for the Christmas season too – so watch this space.

If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to drop me a line at eileen@Britsin.LA as I really do love hearing from you.

Cheers!

Eileen
