Time to give something back

Hi Breeps!

It’s getting chilly here in LA. I’m lighting fires and pulling out the moth-bitten wooly jumpers while cooking stews in my crockpot!

I’ve been filming a top-secret project this week with Ridley Scott Associates and talk about a contrast in weather! By traveling just an hour and a half up north to Lake Arrowhead we were filming in the snow! Kind of amazing to me that we can have sunshine in downtown LA and snow so close by. Only in Southern California can you be skiing in the morning and sunbathing by the beach in the afternoon – it’s one of the features that makes LA one of the best cities in the world.

UKares

Have you ever thought about getting more involved in your community, giving back or doing some meaningful charity work to offset your luxurious and lucky lives?

Well another beautiful thing about LA is that there is always something you can do. UKares Foundation is setting up a volunteer program whereby you sign up for tasks for people in the community that might need our help: Shopping for someone who has broken their leg, giving a ride for folks to their doctors’ appointments, or visiting someone in the hospital with a Ukares care package. We also get involved in local charities that need support, like the Gay Pride Parade and the Special Olympics. From homeless charities to retirement homes there’s so much we can do to show the place we chose to call home, that we care. If any readers are interested in signing up for any of our programs, please email cyoung@ukares.org.

Brits in LA are teaming up with UKares and the British Consulate for A Very British Winter Wonderland – a special evening at the British Residence in Hancock Park where we will be honoring Dame Joan Collins, DBE, TV star and philanthropist Lisa Vanderpump and boxing hero Audley Harrison. The event is scheduled for Thursday, December the 10th. Visit www. ukaresevents.eventbrite.com for all ticket details.

Joan Collins: honored at our Christmas bash

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and so I’m off to Disneyland for the day. My niece is coming into town so it seems like a really fun thing to do. Did you know that there is a secret members club inside the park called Club 33, one of the few places to serve alcohol? Needless to say that’s where you’ll find me for most of the day – I’ll let you know how it is in a couple of weeks.

Air New Zealand are planning a nice surprise for us at Breakfast Club Thanksgiving week so make sure you come and join us. We are forever grateful to Air New Zealand for the fantastic discounts they give us which include $100 off any roundtrip economy flight, $200 off premium economy and $500 of business class – which I have taken and can tell you it is hands down the best.
