Talking Turkey and Club 33

Hello Breeps –

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I was thankful to have some family come into town and ending up in Disneyland for the day.

Adopt-A-Letter: a great way to give back this holiday season
Adopt-A-Letter: a great way to give back this holiday season

We were very fortunate to call guest relations and secure a Disney guide who takes you to the front of the queue on every ride. This enabled us to get round the both parks (California Adventure) in six hours. My nine year-old niece Rainna was ecstatic  To book this special perk, it’s $495 an hour with a six hour minimum and you can have up to ten guests – Call Special activities at 714-300-7710.  We also had our thanksgiving lunch at Disney’s worst kept-secret “Club 33”. Open since May of 1967, it was created by Walt Disney as a secret venue for entertaining important celebrities, politicians and park investors. Decorated with antiques personally chosen by Disney and his wife, it remains the only place in Disneyland that serves alcohol, in which I indulged, just a little. It is located in New Orleans Square above The Pirates of the Caribbean ride, with no ornate signs to help you locate it, one would have to go looking for the door in order to find it. Even if you’ve never heard of the Club, chances are you’ve unknowingly walked passed it; there’s just a small, simple “33” address plate marking the outside. The Club is open for lunch and dinner and costs around $100, not including theme park entrance  park – that costs another $100. The meal includes an all-you-can-eat appetizer bar along with your choice of seasonal entrée off the menu, and an all-you-can-eat dessert bar.

If you are interested in accessing this nice little bonus to the world’s most famous theme park, there is quite the protocol to go through; you or your company must have a membership, or you must know a member willing to personally book you a table as one of their guests (which is how we got in). New applicants can be on hold for about 14 years just for the chance to pay the exorbitant $25,000 initiation fee with an additional $10,000 annual membership fee. Applicants must also pass a rigorous background check.

Would you pay over $25,000 a year to become a VIP at the Happiest Place on Earth? I guess it depends on what exactly makes you happy, right? I can think of a million other ways to spend my money!

To offset this very special obnoxious day full of luxury and uniqueness – I sat Rainna down to choose a letter for “Adopt-a-letter.” The charity that answers kids from impoverished areas letter to Santa Claus. Some of these letters are truly heartbreaking and made me feel truly thankful for the life I live.

Set up by Dame Kimberley Moore, who personally hand delivers the gifts to the children’s homes, and with the help of the toy drives we do every year at our events, the siblings of the child who penned the letter gets a toy too. Go visit the website today (www.adoptaletter.org) and chose a letter to adopt and make a kid’s Christmas that much brighter.

Do you have your tickets to the Panto at the Pasadena Playhouse yet? The Lythgoe family are back and it looks magical. With a star-studded cast, great pop songs and a famous fairytale in themix, it’s not to be missed. Personally I can’t wait (oh no, I can’t), it’s just a great British tradition I look forward to each year – Tickets are available at: www.pasadenaplayhouse.org

And of course how can we forget our Wonderful “A very British Winter WonderLAnd” on Thursday, December 10th at the British Residence in Hancock Park, where BiLA will honor the ageless Joan Collins, TV personality Lisa Vanderpump and Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison, with the UKares Awards in caring. To secure your tickets, hope on to: www. ukareswinter.eventbrite.com.

See you next time!
