Is ‘costume envy’ driving ‘Harry Potty’?

Daniel Radcliffe will forever be associated with the Harry Potter franchise.

It doesn’t matter how many other movies he makes or what else he does. With a new movie set in the same world on its way there are a few different ways you might expect Radcliffe to react.

radcliffe-redmayneHe could be dismissive of this new kid on the block trying to ride his coat tails, or he could play the part of the successful veteran, trying to help the new kid make something of himself. It turns out neither is the case.

Even though he’s left his glasses and magic wand behind, Radcliffe’s still got a severe case of “costume envy” when he saw the new wizard in town – fellow Brit, Eddie Redmayne.

It turns out Radcliffe is actually jealous of Redmayne’s stylish wardrobe on the highly anticipated Harry Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which is currently filming in the U.K. Mostly he’s jealous of the wardrobe.

“Oh f— you, Eddie, in your brilliant costume – I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a great coat already?” he joked to NME magazine about Redmayne’s Doctor Who-esq wardrobe.

Due for release in 2016, the film, written by J.K Rowling, is set in the same magical world of the Potter films but in New York instead of the U.K., and 70 years before Harry’s story begins.

As I recently revealed, the Oscar-winning Redmayne, 33, plays eccentric wizard Newt Scamander, who wears a dapper, teal, three-quarter length coat over a wool suit, accessorized with a wand.

I can feel Radcliffe’s pain. Getting to wear fun and interesting costumes has got to be one of the best parts of being an actor. It can really help you feel more like the character you’re playing.

Many of the characters within the Harry Potter movies got to wear unique outfits, but Harry, along with Ron and Hermione rarely got to wear anything beyond their school uniforms or fairly standard street clothes.

This is still the Harry Potter world right? I wonder why the guy the franchise is named after wasn’t styled as cool as Eddie’s character!?
