Meet a Member: Henny Letailleur

Meet stylist Henny Letailleur from Hackney, East London, who moved here six years ago.

mam-hennyWas there a particular reason you chose LA?

I’d been coming to LA for a few years with some work and had some friends and also family members nearby. I’ve always loved LA and all the different things it has to offer. It was more of a lifestyle change rather than pursuing a career. I was really over working in London and wanted to try living somewhere new. I am a clothing stylist and work on advertising, commercials, red carpet, music videos and am hoping to do more costume based work.

What do you miss most from home?

I miss my my friends and family hugely so I try to go back as often as possible.. Next thing is the shopping! I think America lacks those great high street fashion forward finds, so I usually stock up on Marks and Spencer, Zara, Topshop, Primark etc. Some of those stores are starting to pop up over here but seem hugely expensive in dollars as well as the prices are higher.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since? If so why?

LA gets bad press for being fake and phony. There is that here obviously but I find it be a very positive and spiritual place with like-minded creative people. I’ve worked on the most creative and rewarding projects here, far more so than in London.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus London?

I’m so much healthier here! I’m definitely more active and my diet is so much better. LA also has so much to offer so you are never short of things to do. I love that you can go the beach and just a two hour drive away there’s snow and skiing!

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

The Olympic spa in Koreatown is the best $20 you’ll ever spend. I try and go every few weeks, the best place to relax and unwind. The treatments are amazing too. I also love the flower markets downtown, it’s the best place to find plants, flowers and Christmas trees!

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

I found initially that getting any consistent work was my biggest challenge. So I would say research what is possible within your field and set something up before you come here if you can. Also have as much saved as possible and a proper budget so you don’t get into any difficulty.

Lastly, how can we find out more about you?

I have teamed up with a graphic designer friend and recently launched my own line of candles based on California places, with homeware and fashion items coming soon. We run a regular market stall on Melrose Place.
