A fond farewell to BritWeek

biila-oneAs BritWeek came to a close this week so we must thank all the tireless organizers for helping us celebrate each other and our heritage. I had way too much of a good time at the “BritInvasion” evening, hanging out with so many good friends including Claire and Gus Farwell, The Mabbett sisters, Felicity Wren, Alice Amter, Guy Farwell, Julia Clancey, Tehmima Sunny, Ruth Connell and many, many others at the Fairmont hotel in Santa Monica. It truly was a who’s who of the British ‘society’ scene in LA.

It’s been quite the busy week for gatherings. I attended Jimmy Alingbola’s sold out MonologueSlam at the Nan’s Chinese theatre in Hollywood to see British actor Waleed Algadi take the top honours…and well-deserved it was too. Very proud of all the performers in this first LA edition and looking for to many more. Well done Jimmy for your vision, perseverance and dedication to making it happen. Hats off to you.

We also had our fund raiser for Hillary Clinton this past week, with many ex-pats in tow. We even had West Hollywood Mayor John Duran speak, warning us of the possibility of a Trump presidency and the importance of voting for the down ticket Democrats, so we can win back the House and the Senate.  We managed to raise $7000. Not bad for a grassroots fundraiser.

Meanwhile Bernie Sanders stays in the game and energizes the Democratic youngsters with his rally up in Sacramento. All I will say to those Republican readers who are disappointed at the prospect of Trump winning: it’s still not too late to change your party affiliation. Visit www.ca.gov to see how.

Eileen and I also found the time for a recce this week to check out some possible locations for our British summer fete. Looks like the wonderful Wattle’s Mansion and Gardens in Hollywood might be the fave location, but we will let you know for sure closer to the date.

I’ll be hosting our popular pub quiz in a fortnight with great prizes and fun rounds, so bring some friends, order some good British food, have a cheeky pint or two and hopefully win some trivia moolah.

I’m off to Ireland on Friday for the wedding of my good friends Marc Cleary and Oskar Rodriguez. So a big shout out to those two and I wish them all the luck of the Irish and a lifetime of happiness.

Till next time.

Cheers!
