Union Jack newspaper closes its doors

Publication was America’s only nationally-distributed newspaper for expats

union-jack-front-pageTHE BRITISH expatriate community in the USA has lost one of its most long-standing voices with the closure of Union Jack newspaper after 34 years.

A brief notice on the company’s website states that the newspaper was forced to cease publication with the July edition and thanks the newspaper’s ‘thousands of readers throughout the US, and in Canada and the UK for your years of support and encouragement since 1982.’

The notice went on to say that after 34 years of constant monthly publishing, ‘the UJ has become no longer practical nor viable to continue.’

The paper will be sorely missed.
