THE St. Andrews Society of Los Angeles has joined with KCET to sponsor their US premiere screening of the new film Whisky Galore on Saturday, September 24th at the Writers Guild Theatre, 135 S. Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills. KCET is strongly associated with Scottish themed programming including their top-rated series Shetland and actor Alan Cumming who introduces Masterpiece.

Whisky Galore, is based on the classic 1949 film of the same name adapted from the immortal novel by Sir Compton Mackenzie that tells the story of whisky shortage, ship aground with liquid cargo, and its theft by Scottish villagers who see the event as an answer to their prayers.

Faced with a ship run aground off their shore the villagers seize their opportunity in plundering the cargo before the authorities arrive.

The remake is directed by the accomplished Gillies Mackinnon, who uses the real life events of 1941 coupled with the rugged landscape of Scotland to make this retelling of the story a precious gem.

Following the screening members of the film’s production team and cast will be present for a Q&A and to discuss the remaking of this classic.

VIP whisky tasting, live bag piping, highland dancing, and men in kilts complete what should be a special evening of Scottish entertainment.
