Dance music sensation says he will only release his songs as singles from now on… Whaaaaa?!

dj-calvinIf there was a degree in creating blockbuster singles, then the “master of mix,” Calvin Harris would graduate with top marks.

The Scottish Record producer’s epic consistency in the charts has led him to rethink the way he releases his music – and his idea is one that could spark a cultural shift in the industry.

I hear Calvin will now opt for putting out songs when they are ready – starting with the new single My Way, out this Friday – rather than waiting to release an album.

The change in tack is a knock-on effect of the increasing importance of streaming on music sites including Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal.

A music source said: “Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward.

“Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future.

“Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts.

“Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success.”

In 2014 hit DJ Calvin became the first British musician to reach one billion Spotify streams, and recent hits including summer smash This Is What You Came For have only increased his dominance on the site.

Streaming edged past downloads as the most valuable music format last year, and the royalties Calvin receives from sites such as Spotify will only get bigger with their popularity.

I also hear Calvin’s close pal John Newman will follow a similar path by releasing a glut of singles instead of an album.

He intends to start with six, and if they’re successful, an album will follow.

Calvin was spotted in LA on Sunday night – accompanied by a number of women – en route to watching Drake.

The superstar and former boyf’ of U.S singer Taylor Swift tweeted what appears to be artwork, along with the message “16th,” which could be a clue to this Friday, Sept. 16. for his release of ‘My Way’…
