The Toscars: teams set for a night of parody

Greetings Britlings!

There’s a couple of great things to announce – The Toscars are happening on Feb 22nd at The Renberg Theatre in West Hollywood. This year promises to be our biggest yet. On Tuesday we had our selection night and we conducted an elimination competition with our team leaders this year, called “Toss your competition off”.

work on their hands: the ‘Moonlight’ team

Entrants had to fight hard for the movies they wanted and boy was it nail-biting to watch. Kim Morgan Greene won the first round and chose to parody “LA-LA Land” Sandro Monetti came in second and chose “Manchester by the Sea”. Last year’s winning director Marc Cleary was happy with his pick of “Lion”. Amy Chaffee guessed the price of a three-pack of Magnum extra large condoms to win the next round of “The price is right” awarding her with the movie “Moonlight” Staying with Shopping we played a game of “I went to the market and I bought…” Martin Lee White was the last man standing and decided upon “Arrival”.

A quickfire round of Name as many Oscar best picture winning films as possible in 3 minutes saw Maria Elena Infantino take home “Hell or High Water” which left us with three contestants. Balancing the books saw Victoria Hoffman take home “Hidden Figures” and the final round of Craig’s Mallet saw Scott Kaske chose “Fences” leaving Kerry Marlowe’s team with “Hacksaw Ridge” to parody. This year instead of giving our team leaders random participants, we thought it would be fun to to allow the participants to choose which film they wanted to be a part of.

A fun night was had by all at Obica Restaurant on Sunset Plaza drive, where guests enjoyed pizza and beer for just $20. Trust us, it’s the best pizza in town!

Last weekend I travelled with approx 750,000 people to DTLA to participate in the “Women’s March”. A movement seen all over the world, from London to Sydney, from New York to Chicago and Washington DC. It was a peaceful protest to let our current administration know that women’s rights are human rights and to send a message loud and clear that we won’t stand for a totalitarian leader who doesn’t care for his people. Even though it was a somber event, it was great to see so many people of different ages, gender, color and creeds come together and rise and stand up for their beliefs. These are very interesting times and it seems this is just the start of this activism. I hope you join me as I and others like me continue to protest for the rights of all citizens and make our government accountable for their decision-making.

The world is watching, Mr. Trump!

I’m happy to see so many new faces at Breakfast Club at Cecconi’s, located at the corner of Robertson and Melrose. And it’s so nice to see a lot of our regulars mingling with them and offering sage advice and helping guide the newbies. Keep passing the flame on to the next generation!

Unfortunately Pub Quiz will be on hiatus for a while longer – until after The Toscars at least. But don’t fret it will be back!

Have a great week all and see you soon!
