Meet a Member: Steve Sidelnyk

Not all Brits in LA Members live in Los Angeles: in fact a fair number are scattered around the globe.  This week’s Meet a Member is  Steve Sidelnyk who lives in Whitstable in Kent in the UK.

You don’t live in Los Angeles. How did you end up joining Brits in LA?

I lived in LA for 10 years till 2014 and it is my second home and the Brits In LA Community was an important part of my life there. I made so many great friends and always loved the social gatherings that Eileen and Craig organised.

What was your impression of LA?

I think people forget that normal people actually live there and that there are many families and neighbourhoods as well as the Strip……it really is like anywhere else!

Do you think you could ever see yourself moving to LA?

“I’ll be back!”….Quote.

Do you have a hidden gem that you want to share with us?

Has to be the Farmer’s Market at The Grove…..great food, beer and great friends….I miss it!!!!

Why would you recommend other overseas readers joining Brits in LA?

Well it’s a great way to meet other like-minded people and as I’ve said the help both on a social and practical level is there and most people are willing to share their insight and experience.

We hear you have been working on an exciting project. Care to tell us more about it?

Well I’ve always been a drummer and am playing with Richard Ashcroft from The Verve and we will be at The Wiltern on the 3rd April so come on down. Also look out for us on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on the 28th March!

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Simple: Take Fountain. (editor’s note: for those not familiar with Hollywood lore, this old chestnut is credited to Bette Davis, when asked on The Tonight Show by host Johnny Carson for advice on “the best way an aspiring starlet could get into Hollywood”)

Lastly, how can we find you on the Internet?
