Doc Martin – from the very beginning

Bedside curmudgeon: Martin Clunes as Doc Martin

FANS OF the grumpy but brilliant Doc Martin will be able to relive the doctor’s special bedside manner from the very beginning when KCET-TV begins showing the much-loved British series from season one, episode one, on Thursday, June 1at at 8pm.

Doc Martin is one of British TV best-loved exports in recent years and stars BAFTA-winner Martin Clunes as Martin Ellingham, a London hot-shot doctor whose truculence and tactless manner causes mayhem when he relocated to Portwen a quirky seaside town in Cornwall. In the opening episode, Martin moves in and meets the locals, quickly realizing that adjusting to village life is not going to be smooth sailing. In his sharp suits and flashy car, he’s a fish out of water. His first patient is Sir Gilbert Spencer, a retired lieutenant colonel, with an embarrassing problem – he’s grown breasts. Meanwhile, it’s Lifeboat Day in Portwenn, and the harbor is alive with stalls, fairground rides, a jazz band, and it turns out, humiliation.

KCET is planning to show all eight seasons of the show in anticipation of the ninth and final series, which will air in 2018. Check your listings for channel location.
