Meet Luke Anthony originally from Australia, who lived in London for the past 12 years, and moved to LA six months ago to pursue his career in hair and makeup

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

I had been coming out here over the last five years for a few weeks each year filming on the BBC/Showtime series Episodes, where I was looking after all the main cast’s hair, including Matt LeBlanc and Tamsin Greig. I got to experience LA in those times filming and after 12 years in London I was ready for a change. I wasn’t excited to move back to Australia, and the idea to start a new life in LA excited me.

What do you miss most from home?

From the UK, mostly my friends, public transport and being able to travel anywhere in Europe. From Australia I miss everything, the beaches, the food, my family and my best friends. I will end up in Australia one day so that’s good to know.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

My very first impression when I came to LA over six years ago filming was that there was no water and it looked so dry and barren! It’s rained since then and actually when I moved in February was rather lush and green from all the rain. I live in West Hollywood and the gardens and plants are so beautiful and green, I love it.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus London?

I love that you can actually make connections easily and people are open to networking. LA definitely has big extremes, but feels like you can really create something here if you are prepared to put some energy behind it and hustle.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

Wanderlust in Hollywood is the best yoga studio I have ever been to in the world. It’s like going on a yoga retreat. They have an amazing intro offer that you can use everyday for two weeks, bliss.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

Save money! This move wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t have had savings to use, period. If you’re thinking of moving, save as much as you can first, you will be glad you did. Unless you have a job to land into of course. And make as many connections as you can.

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

You’re only new in LA once so make the most and enjoy. Soon you will be here for years and have all the friends and work sorted. You’re only new once here. I love this.

Lastly, how can we find out more about you? Are you working on anything at the moment?

I have set up a studio space in West Hollywood where I am doing haircuts and colors. I also am trained in Kahuna Massage which I am also offering as a service. And of course hairstyling and makeup for events. I’m offering half-price haircuts ($40) for any new clients in my studio.  For a price list feel free to get in contact. 424-354-7558 or email me at lukeanthonys@gmail.com.
