Meet a Member Delia Antal

Meet Delia Antal from London (originally from Transylvania), who moved to LA ten months ago to pursue her career in acting and film making.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

I studied and trained here as an actress nine years ago and it’s been in my mind to move here since. Just the weather and the ocean…it’s a dream come true.

What  do you miss most from home?

Strange enough, but the food in London is just the best. I lived in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea for twelve years and the restaurants there are amazing. Of course in Mayfair too. I miss those a lot. I have a feeling when I return to London I’ll be eating a lot. I miss also my bike and spending time in Kensington gardens and Holland Park.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

Ah, a delight, it was love at the first sign and it didn’t change.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus London?

Surely the weather and the food. Strangely enough I miss the rain but I wouldn’t change the LA weather for any other place, it’s really a dream come true just to move here. And in such short period of time I played in a movie and got a nomination (best supporting actress for the Whacksaw Fridge movie). I had a premiere at Laemmle Theatre for my docu-film WE CANnes

And I gave birth to my son. And we both already booked roles in an American Production directed by Elisabeth Blake Thomas, filming in November.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

Hidden gem, hmm….I’m still discovering.  I like many places but they are not hidden. The BBCM cafe, Ladurre cafe, the garden at the Polo Lounge in The Beverly Hills Hotel and Soho House which is my second home. For my son we go to Au Fudge, My Gym Beverly Hills and I like a lot Janie and Jackie shop for kids. Movies I watch at Soho House and Thursdays at The Grove from 7pm (mummy and baby).

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

– Save, save and save again before you make the move. It is very pricey here, especially when you don’t have a job straight away.

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Not to fall in the fame game. I’m an actress and everyone has the impression that an actor wants to be famous, I don’t, I want to be great at my job that’s all. I’m not the type of gossip magazines and stuff. I make art house movies and documentaries too, so no time for nonsense.

Lastly, how can we find out more about you? Are you working on anything at the moment? The movies I produced, directed and star in are on Amazon, {D’Ora (2014) and WE CANnes (2017)}. And at the moment I’m writing my third movie Waking with Sunrise. It’s similar to Bridget Jones’ Baby except it is a 100% true story and aims to encourage women of a certain age to have children on their own, rather than wait forever for Mr Right.
