Meet a Member: Mark Hayes

Meet Mark Hayes from Ireland, who moved to LA seven years ago to pursue a comedy and writing career.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

The weather and the women. I’m a weak man. Oh, and best place to be for comedy.

What do you miss most from home?

Being chubby.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

People here are very dumb and no.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus Cork?

In LA people tell me that bread is for poor people whereas back in Cork we eat bread all the time.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

Yes, BookSoup is probably my favourite place (mostly because they have my three books RanDumb, RanDumber and PreDumb: Before I Came To LA as their top recommended books in there).

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

Just come and figure it out when you get here. And try not to die within the first six months.

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Probably this wise old Irish proverb: A lot of the sense I make no time.

Lastly, how can we find out more about you ? Are you working on anything at the moment?

My instagram is @themarkhayes, twitter is @trickaduu and snapchat is also @trickaduu if you want to send me nudes. Website is www.markhayes.tv or check out my books on Amazon or in BookSoup. I also have a new weekly Irish show every Friday at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood at 8pm so if you want to come hit me up for the guest list.
