Feeling Sporty?

It seems we have no choice as the World Cup tournament has finally begun. Brits in LA World Cup Headquarters will return to Mixology Bar 101 at The Farmers Market at The Grove. They have plenty of screens and are not charging an entry fee either. The event has been posted on FB but you can also email us at info@britsin.la for details. Everyone is welcome so feel free to bring the kids, but if you do I advise that you enter via the Farmers Market and avoid passing the very expensive American Girl store.

The final match will be played on Sunday July 15th. I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that England won’t be in the tournament by this stage. However, I secretly hope that my nonchalant attitude is a secret sign that this time they really will win.

Who had the bright idea to schedule the Wimbledon Finals the same weekend as the World Cup? This year’s Championships are held from Monday 2nd July – Sunday 15th July and the schedule  will be announced on June 29th. Go to wimbledon.com for details.

If you are throwing a viewing party for Wimbledon you can now get the requisite Pimm’s No.1 at BevMo.com – they have stores all over town but also conveniently deliver. Every Brit has their own version of what you ‘must add’ to make this classic Britsh summer tipple authentic.  Many moons ago I worked in a London Tennis Club and our recipe was R. Whites Lemonade, with strawberries, cucumber, orange slices, cubes of apples  and lots of fresh mint leaves. But Pimm’s have settled the debate and have an official recipe page on their website at anyoneforpimms.com (They also have lots of other serving suggestions including  a delicious sounding ‘Pimm’s Royale’).

To make the original Pimms Cup, mix 50ml of Pimms, 150ml of lemonade (please note that British Lemonade is sparkling and a bit more like Sprite or San Pellegrino Limonata), a generous serving of mint, orange, strawberries and cucumber with some ice in a highball glassw. Mix and sip. Best make a jugful, as you never know who will turn up at the sound of the ice tray leaving your freezer. Are you partial to a Pimms? If so, we’d love to hear how you prefer to serve it.

The British Consulate in LA did us proud again at the weekend by representing the community at LA Pride. The parade went down Santa Monica Boulevard from Fairfax Ave to Doheny Drive with 70 floats participating. The Consulate float represented with an iconic ‘Routemaster’ Double Decker bus.  Our Craig went along and joined in the celebrations with quite a few Brits in LA members who were all dressed up for the occasion.  There was Mary Poppins & Bert, The Spice Girls – (which consisted of  both male and female members) , and an Austin Powers impersonator too. But the one who drew the biggest cheer was 7 year old “Milan” who killed it, strutting his stuff in high heel wedges and a beautiful rainbow colored dress.

You can visit UKinLA on Instagram to see more pictures and videos.

Breakfast Club will be back next week, so do come along if you can. We also have our weekly Pub Quiz every Tuesday night. It is a great way to meet new people. LA can be a terribly lonely place but know we are always here for you if you need a chat. If you can’t make any of our events you can always drop us a line at BritsinLA@gmail.com – Craig and I share this address so your messages will go directly to both of us.

Come on Ingerland !

Cheers
