Meet A Member: Elisabeta Vintila

Meet Elisabeta Vintila, a Romania-born, London-raised international model. Elisabeta, also a singer and actress, relocated to Los Angeles recently and loves it here.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

Because here I am surrounded by the industry I’d always wanted to be part of. As I child I would use the hairbrush in my bedroom as a microphone and say to the imaginary crowd, “Good evening Hollywood.” I feel creative and motivated to do things here. The hot weather was another big attraction, of course, but I still always feel cold. Growing up in Romania and England will do that to you.

What do you miss most about home?

A decent cuppa. The tea here isn’t strong enough. I miss fish and chips too. Those are London things. From Bucharest I miss sarmale, which is a dish of minced pork stuffed in cabbage leaves, and the clear like vodka alcoholic drink tuica – that stuff gets you drunk in seconds.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

I’d always loved Americans. When I met them in Europe they were such positive people, always up for a laugh. When I first visited Los Angeles five years ago I found all of that and more. As well as being outgoing, everyone is so generous and friendly here. That’s not changed. I’m glad those first impressions proved correct.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus London?

Dreams become reality quicker. In London people say ‘Let’s think about it’ and here they say ‘Let’s do it.’ People get things done here, there’s a spontaneous nature to decisions and whether it’s a music video, a photoshoot or whatever I’ve been lucky enough to benefit from those quick decisions. London is so exciting and LA is the only place in the world that’s even more exciting.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

It’s not exactly hidden but I think the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood is a real gem as I’ve seen many incredible events there. Recently I met George Clooney at his AFI lifetime achievement evening at the Dolby and he was so nice, I hugged him. Jennifer Aniston and Cindy Crawford were there too and look so beautiful close up. The Oscars are also held at that special venue but I haven’t been to that event…yet.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

Pack SPF because that’s as essential as your passport. And embrace California culture. When in Rome…and all that.

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

The film director Oliver Stone told me to always follow my dreams regardless of the obstacles in the way. And always be yourself. Don’t be someone you’re not – unless you’re doing it for an acting role.
