According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network fired the 37-year-old host of Man vs. Wild, allegedly over his lack of cooperation on two projects he was contracted to do. His contract has been terminated.
A rep for Discovery confirmed, “Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him.”
In response to Discovery’s statement, Grylls’ representative Heather Krug said: “Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to a mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery’s decision to terminate current productions.”
She added, “Bear has loved the Man vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting-edge content again soon for his loyal audience.”
Grylls, a former SAS soldier, has swallowed many unsavory things during his time on Man vs. Wild, including drinking his own pee (ewww!), however, I’m guessing accepting The Discovery Channel’s decision is probably one of the hardest things he’s had to swallow to date…
