There are superhero movies, and then there are movies whose box-office draw is simply super.

After just 19 days of release, The Avengers has totalled over $1 billion in global grosses.

Now everyone is now buzzing on the news that a sequel to Thor is due out in 2013, with Chris Hemsworth back as the god of thunder, and British actor Tom Hiddleston to reprise his role as the villainous Norse god Loki.

This is exciting news, as a good super-villain is hard to come by  these days with studios often getting the casting choice very wrong.

But when Hiddleston landed the part as the ultimate baddie in Thor, then returning in The Avengers, the mix of Loki’s nasty, but nice was perfect!

“I haven’t seen a script for Thor 2 yet,” Hiddleston said. “I’d like to take [Loki] to his absolute rock bottom. I’d like to see him yield, essentially, to his darkest instincts. Then, having hit rock bottom, maybe come back up.”

In Thor 2, the actor hopes to find some redemption for Loki and maybe even see him join the forces of good. The film will explore other cosmic realms outside of Asgard and Earth, but from a psychological standpoint, examining the relationship between half-brothers, Thor and mischievous Loki.

Hiddleston says he is much more interested in a more-personal exploration of his troubled character, “I hope that somewhere in the plot that’s something that is expanded on.”

He said. ”I keep finding myself saying, I can’t remember who said it, but, “The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference” and Loki is not indifferent to Thor. Loki hates Thor, which must mean that underneath that he still loves him.”

He added, ”It will be so fun to see him [Loki] see the light again and be recruited to the good side.”

Sure Tom, and pigs might fly!
