No laughing matter: Gervais rushed to hospital with gastric flu

Ricky Gervais was rushed to hospital late last week and filming for his new upcoming Channel 4 comedy show Derek was almost closed down due to a dodgy stomach bug.

The British funnyman barely managed to make it through his scenes after suffering from excruciating abdominal pain and an emergency doctor had to be called to the set.

After a thorough examination, The Office creator was carted off to hospital where he was given blood and urine tests before being diagnosed with gastric flu.

In a post on his official website Ricky told fans:“Filming on Derek was only marred slightly by the fact that an emergency doctor was called after 24 hours of severe abdominal pain.”

The comedian went on: “I also couldn’t stop filming, so in some scenes, Derek will look a little paler and sweatier than usual.”

We wish Ricky a speedy recovery.
