I was excited to watch British actor Henry Cavill filling the late Christopher Reeve’s boots earlier this week in the newly-released Warner Bros Man of Steel trailer.
Directed by Zack Snyder, whose previous work includes 300 and The Watchmen, Superman is the next comic book hero up for a modern day reboot, in what appears to be a raw, realist version of the original story. ”Man of Steel” retells the tale of Kryptonian native Kal-El who plunges to earth after his own planet Krypton is destroyed.
It is highly anticipated that Snyder will do for the Superman franchise what Christopher Nolan – a producer on “Man of Steel”- did for Batman in his hugely successful “Dark Knight” trilogy that starred Christian Bale.
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of them all. Like Smallville, this film explores the childhood of Clark Kent growing up in Kansas. The two and a half minute trailer begins with a bearded and shirtless Cavill as Clark Kent floating in water.
Along with Cavill as Superman, the flick also stars a bevy of Hollywood heavyweights, including Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon and Amy Adams as Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane.
This movie looks set to thrill!
Man of Steel hit theaters June 14, 2013.
