I hear Adele could be making her live return at this year’s Oscars ceremony, according to my well-placed showbiz sources.
If true, then it will be the first time the British superstar has performed live since giving birth to her first child last October. As speculation of her ‘comeback’ grows on some of Hollywood’s biggest online gossip columns (ahem, like mine), Oscars chiefs have announced they will pay tribute to the James Bond film franchise, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, during this year’s event. This is expected to feature Adele performing the theme tune for Skyfall as part of the special segment at the prestigious film awards ceremony. The singer is also nominated for the “Best Original Song” award. The last “Bond” song to be nominated in this category was ‘For Your Eyes Only’ in 1982, performed by Scottish singer Sheena Easton.
I reported last week that the James Bond smash, directed by Sam Mendes, has internationally become the most successful Bond film to date after it topped the $1 billion mark at the box office. A spokesperson for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not respond to my phone call request for comment on the matter by press time … “Skyfall” is also nominated for “Best Original Song” at the Golden Globe Awards, which will be broadcast live on Sunday. The 85th Academy Awards airs Sunday, February 23. I cannot wait!
