THERE were whoops of joy from me when Adele won the Oscar in the ‘Best Original Song’ category for her hit ‘Skyfall’ Sunday night.
The British pop star had earlier performed the tune live for the first time at the 85th Academy Awards.
It was an amazing hat-trick after having won in a short space of time a Golden Globe, a Grammy and now an Oscar.
The singer shed tears as she gave a short acceptance speech with co-writer Paul Epworth after singing the song in a segment that paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of 007 movies.
It is the first time a James Bond theme song has won an Oscar – and Adele began the acceptance speech as she stood on stage with her co-writer and producer, Epworth.
She said: “Thank you so much, this is amazing,”she said, before thanking people and bursting into tears.
Adele specifically thanked Epworth for “believing in me all the time,” and went on to mention partner Simon Konecki, saying: “And my man, I love you baby.”
She then ended her short speech by shouting to the star-studded audience: “You’re all amazing as well!”
Skyfall the song proved a commercial hit in its own right, selling more than two million copies worldwide and reaching No 2 in the UK charts and No 8 in the US.
Congrats, to my favourite singer in a very long time… Adele, you truly deserved to win this award!
