Cumberbatch naked shower scene: it had to (boldly) go!

A naked scene that shows heartthrob actor Benedict Cumberbatch stripping off in slow motion for a steamy shower was DELETED from the final cut of Star Trek: Into Darkness.

CumberbatchThe British actor – some of whose more devoted female fans call themselves ‘Cumberbitches’ – can be seen having a soaking in the missing scene.

Oo-er!

Cumberbatch plays Khan, a terrorist who goes to battle with Captain Kirk, played by hottie Chris Pine.

The deleted scene was shown on US talk show Conan O’Brien  as director JJ Abrams discussed a scene that featured Alice Eve (daughter of ‘Shoestring’ actor Trevor), who also caused a stir in her underwear that DID make the flick’s the final cut.

The scene faced criticism that it was misogynistic but JJ explained that the edit didn’t explain the scene as he intended.

He said: “She’s changing and the intent was – it’s Kirk who was always a womanising character – so the idea was have a beat like that, amidst all this action and adventure, have beat where he looks and looks away.”

However, the director didn’t feel that it played out that way when the film hit the big screens.

He admitted: “I don’t think I quite edited the scene the right way.”

Talking about nudity in the Star Trek franchise he continued: “To me it was a balance. There was a scene earlier where he is not dressed either so I felt like it was a trade-off. But some people felt like it was exploiting her and while she is lovely I can also see their point of view.

“I’m not defending it, but then there’s a picture of Kirk who is not wearing all his clothes”

After seeing the film, and liking it… I reckon a bit of near-naked Cumberbatch wouldn’t have done my eyes any harm at all!
