Sam Mendes tipped for return to Bondage!

sam-and-danielDirector Sam Mendes has been tipped to take on the next James Bond film according to my spies in Tinseltown – even though reports suggest he has dismissed the idea.

The British film-maker was behind Skyfall – the most successful Bond movie ever, which premiered last year and went on to gross more than $1bn worldwide.

Mendes, 47, had previously said the idea of directing the next 007 flick made him feel “physically ill”.

But now talks have begun that put him back in the frame with Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

They are reporetedly prepared to wait until he has completed his theatre commitment so he can direct the next instalment of the British spy franchise.

Mendes is expected to make a deal to start production next year.

It comes after Mendes dismissed rumours he would return in an Empire magazine interview in March.

He said at the time: “It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie.

“Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.”

Neither MGM nor Sony were available for comment. I bet Daniel Craig is well pleased!
