Doctor Who 50th anniversary details revealed…

[adrotate group=”9″]

doctor_whoThis week the BBC has released an official plot synopsis for Doctor Who’s forthcoming 50th anniversary special.

The anniversary episode is called The Day Of The Doctor and has an extra-long running time of 75 minutes. Popular former Timelord David Tennant and companion Billie Piper, and veteran actor John Hurt will join the show’s current stars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Here’s what the plot synopsis teases: “The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space, an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.”

‘The Day Of The Doctor’ will air on BBC One on November 23 at the same time it is shown in 3D in over 200 cinemas in the US, UK, Canada, Germany and even Russia! Locals can even see it with other Who fans at the Cat & Fiddle (see Brits in LA, right)

In addition, the BBC has sifted through the archives for Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide and is planning a Doctor Who: Monsters And Villains Weekend featuring a countdown to the show’s best-loved baddie.

The fourth Doctor Who, and one of my favorites, Tom Baker, revealed that he never wanted to stop rehearsing Doctor Who scenes because playing the famous time-traveler was “better than real life”.

The 79-year-old Baker played arguably the most loved incarnation of the Doctor from 1974 to 1981.

And the actor, who famously wore a striped scarf while playing the fourth Doctor, admitted that he wanted to live in the fantasy world.

Speaking to the BBC about his time on Doctor Who, Baker said: “It was so much better than real life. I stayed so long because real life at the time wasn’t so terrific.

“Being Doctor Who, I used to look at the clock and know at half past four we were going to stop rehearsing – and that was a sad moment for me because I wanted to stay in this beautiful beautiful, unreal world.”

But despite being one of the long-running show’s most famous faces, Baker admits that he never even watched the show.

He said: “I never watched Doctor Who before [I was in it] and I never watched it when I was in it, and so I’m certainly not watching it now. I never wanted to watch Doctor Who – I wanted to be Doctor Who.”

But the fourth Doctor is eager to see how Matt Smith and David Tennant celebrate the big 5-0.

“I’m going to watch the big show – you’ll be out of it if you don’t watch that! I’m a great admirer of the BBC. The BBC’s the sort of place that can make murder sound like charity so when they get to a big deal like this, they’ll surely get it right… and it’ll be exciting!”

Roll on November 23, I say… I can’t wait!
