According to reports this week, pop superstar Adele was offered the opportunity to be the UK ambassador of L’Oréal to the tune of $20 million, and she turned it down…
Apparently, the singer had been involved in lengthy negotiations with beauty giants for months, but ultimately decided to decline the offer.
A source said the brand was “gobsmacked” by the singer’s refusal of the deal, and the huge sum of money that went with it.
The deal would have seen Adele replacing current ambassador Cheryl Cole, who signed her own lucrative contract with the brand in 2009.
Rumor has it that the 25-year-old Oscar-winning – and notoriously private – songbird has been approached by many brands for endorsement deals, and has refused point blank every time.
But, I’m guessing that this massive deal is one of the biggest that she’s ever turned her back on…
Clearly the singer, whose personal fortune exceeds $50 million, doesn’t need the dosh!
We have to say that we’re impressed that Adele is willing to resist temptation to protect herself and her private life instead. The spotlight can be seriously damaging – especially for young stars like Adele, who is only 25 – and we respect the English beauty for doing what’s right for her.
In the past the singer has expressed her disdain with celebrities who ‘sell out’ by putting their names to a string of products for the sake of easy money, saying: “I don’t want my name anywhere near another brand….. ‘I don’t wanna be tainted or haunted. I think it’s shameful when you sell out.”
Oh well L’Oréal, I guess you’ll just have to find someone like you!
