The hot invite of last Sunday night was the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party hosted by Graydon Carter – this do is the place where even Elton and David leave their lavish bash and head straight for its doors the minute they get a chance to…
While the location of Carter’s famous gathering changed this year for the first time in five years, the abundance of A-listers attending the bash did not. The location was the perfect place for such an event to be held, too. It may not sound too glamorous when put into words – a parking lot on the south side of West Hollywood’s Sunset Plaza… But once inside the beautifully decked-out tent offering sweeping views of the city from one side and a wall lined with portraits of past Oscar winners on another, one is in five-star Hollywood heaven!
I spotted my fellow Brit-buddies Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and handsome boyfriend Jason Statham arriving looking every inch the loved-up couple. Rosie was rocking a sheer baby blue dress and Jason in a tuxedo. Rising Hollywood celeb, British filmmaker and artist Amanda Eliasch (pictured top right) was wearing a gorgeous full-length Roberto Cavalli creation topped with her unmistakable “Peggy Guggenheim” style trademark dark glasses – you couldn’t miss her for toffee in those!
Another standout from the party was supermodel Poppy Delevingne, who wowed in one of the night’s most revealing dresses, a long sheer black floor-length gown that featured a dangerously deep neckline and bum-baring cutouts at the back.
Once inside, a hungry crowd lined up to order In-N-Out burgers from a truck serving regular and no-meat treats. With chips!
As the waiters carrying trays of macaroons, dark chocolate and of course In-N-Out burgers rushed past us, I overheard heard movie-magnet producer Harvey Weinstein asking his wife, the British fashion designer Georgina Chapman, to “grab a burger”.
“Darling, we’ve been together for 10 years and in that time I have not eaten meat,” Chapman replied to her husband. That told you Harv’.
Oh well, more burgers for me I thought, and boy did I wopped them down… By the time I left the exclusive bash my white Dior shirt was covered in tomato sauce – messy… Shame on me, so much for the glamour! Uber-time was-a-calling…
My highlight of the night? Meeting the well-deserved Oscar winner Jared Leto, who won for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in Dallas Buyers Club… Ahh, and so I went home a happy man indeed.
