AS ANY Doctor Who fan can you tell, sadly the actors who play the sci-fi icon are not as long-lived as the Time Lord himself.

Like father, like son? Jon and Sean Pertwee...
Like father, like son? Jon and Sean Pertwee…

But Jon Pertwee, the show’s third Doctor who passed away in 1996, lives on thanks to his son, Sean, and the resemblance is uncanny!

Fans of hit US show Gotham were left doing a double-take after Sean Pertwee who plays Alfred Pennyworth in the series, posted a picture on his Instagram account – as he is the spitting image of his dear old dad.

A fan-made piece of art placed the hair of Pertwee senior – who played Doctor Who from 1970-74 – onto Pertwee junior, to create the stunning composite.

Michelle Summerfield added: “Omg I had to look twice so much like your dad.”

Lockhelmshores said: “You’re the spitting image of your father! Thought it was him!!”

Other fans have called on Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat or his Sherlock co-producer Mark Gatiss to write an episode with Sean taking on his dad’s old role, and have him meet current star Peter Capaldi.

Tenthdoctor pleaded: “Sean, I don’t know if you know Steven Moffat or Mark Gatiss but a multi-Doctor episode with 3 & 12 NEEDS to happen and you’re the guy to do it!”

Ttony_tf1 added: “You need to be on #DoctorWho asap!!

Christmas special maybe??”

Whilev added: “Please can you be the next Doctor Who? I think Moffat would do an incredible adventure connected with the third Doctor and make an incredible tribute to your father.”

It’s not the first time Sean has invoked the memory of his departed father, previously dressing up as the Doctor for Halloween and totally rocking the cravat/cape (pictured).

I have to agree with the fans, Sean would make an excellent guest star playing the Doctor… Bring it on Moffat!
