Remembrance Poppies available at British Consulate

Lest we forget...
Lest we forget…

WITH Remembrance Sunday barely a month away, Brits around the world will be wearing poppies to show their respect for the British and Commonwealth armed forces who served in both world wars. Local expats can also do their bit by picking up a poppy at the British Consulate, where Remembrance Popppies will be for sale by donation at the front window from October 22nd until November 20th.

All proceeds benefit the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, a charity helping British ex-servicemen and women that are either in a poor financial position, wounded in action, need rehabilitation or general daily help. The use of the poppy was inspired by the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields”. Its opening lines refer to the many poppies that were the first flowers to grow in the churned-up earth of soldiers’ graves in Flanders, part of Belgium that saw some of the fiercest fighting of the First World War. The poem was written by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae on 3 May 1915 after witnessing the death of a close friendthe day before.

The British Consulate General is located at 2029 Century Park East #1350 in Century City.
