Of Milk Tray, Marmite and Beef Wellingtons

Farewell 2015, and hello to the New Year ahead. Now is the perfect time to take stock and see where you went right and what you need to work on to make 2016 be the year you want it to be.

One phrase that has been running through my head these last few days is “Make Time For What Matters” which sounds very simple but in practice is not always easy to do. That is going to be my main New Year’s resolution I think, so feel free to give me a nudge if you see me veering off course. I always try to add something to my life when making my resolutions, rather than giving something up.

Long time readers may recall my ongoing vow to do something new every month – more often if I can. My new thing for December came about organically when I decided to make Beef Wellington for Christmas lunch! It was my very first attempt and I am delighted to announce it turned out great! I used a combination of recipes and watched Gordon Ramsey’s ‘How To’ video a few times too. It actually wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, so if you have ever considered making it and been put off I highly recommend you give it a go. I got some fantastic Christmas presents this year too – my love of Marmite was cemented as I received a personalized jar from my sister Sally! Apparently you can still order these via their Facbook page at facebook.com/marmite. Which should complement the new Warburtons crumpets that are the size of your face!

It seems everyone got in on the personalized merchandise act, as I also received a box of Milk Tray with my name on it! Fortunately I got a gift voucher to YogaWorks which should help me work off all those extra Christmas pounds!

bila-marmiteWith pilot season over the next few weeks I am sure it will be a busy time for those of you in the business. Make sure to try and join us for our weekly Breakfast Club at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood, every Tuesday morning rain or shine. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly so don’t be afraid to come alone. Plenty of non-Brits pull up a chair too so don’t let that stop you either!  It’s a great chance to meet new people and also connect with old friends. Our ‘Mayor of Breakfast’ Bernard Skibben, crossed paths with an old school friend at breakfast a couple of years ago and it had been over 60 years since they last saw each other! It is a bit like Piccadilly Circus – stand there long enough and you will eventually bump into everyone you know!
