Hey Britlings:
It’s Toscar time and do we have a show for you!
For the uninitiated, The Toscars, now in their 9th year, tap into the creative genius of the Brits in LA community to create five minute short parodies of Best Picture nominees of that ‘other’ sound-alike award show!
Our teams have three weeks to write, direct, cast, shoot, edit and score their masterpieces. This year’s show will be MC’d by Emmy award winner, Jai Rodriguez from the popular TV show “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy.”
The eight teams of up to ten members will be judged by the newly formed Whacademy, (made up of 40 former winners and participants of years past) in 10 categories including best whacting, (acting) best cutter (editor), best tunes (score) , best looking (DP) and others.
The night will start with a red carpet and cocktail reception in the courtyard of the Renberg Theatre in West Hollywood followed by the screening of the 8 films which will segue straight into the awards. And we have some really fun awards presenters lined up including Devious Maid’s Brianna Brown, Black Sails’ Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Arrow’s Jimmy Akingbola, Screenwriter Jake Thornton, Tom Markley, a Hollywood talent agent, Louisa Spring, a talent manager, who looks after major British talent as well as the Postlethwaite twins from “Peaky Blinders”. And we have British host Tamsin Eames from ITV’s “This Morning” covering the ceremony and also giving away an award. And finally we also have a surprise Oscar nominee joining us to give out the coveted best film award.
