Winter in Los Angeles: let’s embrace the wet!

Rain….. I feel it.

It amazes me how shocked people are when it rains here – Looking on my Facebook memories it seems to rain quite a lot here during this time of year. My goodness California as a whole needs it! I for one get quite nostalgic with the wetness, reminds me of home, splashing in puddles, running under my coat for the last bus, clashing into other brollies on Oxford street, jeans soaked to the bone and slushing socks in my dampened trainers. A simpler time where we didn’t need to worry about doing our hair, as it would be ruined the moment you step out of the house….

Coachella: another amazing lineup this year

Anyway, please keep safe out there as there have been a lot of accidents already.

This year, (like every year) I’ve made a commitment to get back into shape – so I joined Equinox – the fancy gym (smh). To be honest I’m spending a little bit more money per month that my old gym, but using kidology on myself, I feel I need to use it every day to make it worthwhile. I do actually like this gym (the one in Hollywood) – it has a pool, jacuzzi, spinning classes, tons of yoga and fitness classes and it’s actually working out cheaper than my Barry’s Bootcamp, SoulCycle and YogaWorks combined. They also offer a great deal – if I sign you up – you get the first month free, a free personal training session and a free one-on-one Pilates session. Oh, and I forgot to mention The Spa.  You get 25% off your first treatment. They also have tons of specials throughout the week and free samples etc. Okay enough of me pushing this onto you – but if you want a life-changing fitness goal – come and join me; send me an email to find out more or ask any questions at craig@britsin.la.

This year’s Coachella lineup was announced last week with lots of great British bands playing including the legendary RADIOHEAD. It’s held on April 14-16 and April 21-23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California (about 2-3 hrs east of LA) Other British standouts include Brighton producer Simon Green as BONOBO (expect some great special guests on vocals), Two Door Cinema, (one of my new favourite bands from Northern Ireland, who will be playing songs from their third album ‘Gameshow’) and of course the legendary NEW ORDER. Visit www. coachella.com to see how to purchase tickets. I’ve always had a blast each time I’ve gone  – it’s a true California desert experience, that should be on everyone’s bucket list.

My new favorite place: Equinox Gym

The Golden Globes were as fabulous as ever on Sunday and once again the Brits delivered a pretty, erm, golden performance. Among the winners were the Netflix show “The Crown” and its star Claire Foy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson from “Nocturnal Animals”, and the holy trinity of  Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddlestone AND Olivia Coleman for the BBC/AMC collaboration “The Night Manager”. Let’s see how all this effects the actual Oscar nominations which are announced on Jan 24th, coincidentally the same day as that other fantastic awards show “The Toscars” hosted by the wonderful Brits in LA, announces its shortlist. If you want to participate and see your face on the big screen, or you are technical, like a composer, writer, director or editor, come and join in the fun, join a group to make a parody film – it truly is amazing fun – here’s the sign up info – www.10toscars.eventbrite.com.

Stay dry my fellow BiLA members, or go make some memories by jumping in puddles.

Cheers!
