Not all our members are British…a case in point is this week’s Meet A Member, singer Aja Warren, originally from New Mexico.
Was there a particular reason you chose LA
It’s the center of it all! The weather doesn’t hurt either 😉
What do you miss most from home?
I miss the food (green chili mostly) and the vast open spaces. I’m not a huge fan of the desert, but the vistas in NM are really something so special. There’s something really magical about the land there.
What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?
My first impression upon moving here was the smell. It smelled so full and beautiful of flowers. I sort of take it for granted, but when I’m away and come back it hits me so hard. The smell of the ocean and the flowers.
What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus Albuquerque?
The inspiration. People are alive and inspired. They all came here for a purpose or a goal, and they have big dreams and visions. In Albuquerque, people are sort of in their lives and that’s it. There isn’t that spark in the air you find here in LA.
Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?
I love the fern dell in Griffith Park, it feels like a jungle and it’s right here in the middle of LA. And the Trails Cafe there as well. The most delicious home made chocolate lavender scones and amazing setting among the trees.
What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?
It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you want some specific experience, you can most likely find it here. There are just so many people, so many different niches. LA is what you make it.
Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Surround yourself with positive and loving people. Don’t give your life energy away too easily.
Lastly, how can we find out more about you? Are you working on anything at the moment?
I’m releasing a new EP I’m very excited about! I’ll be performing at the Hotel Cafe on April 19th, and releasing my music videos and singles for the album over the next few months. I’m also an actress, producer and a singer, so I’m always juggling and always creating. Alongside the EP, I’m developing a couple TV shows that I hope to sell this year. All these outlets inform one another, so each of my projects have some component that reflects that balance. It keeps me inspired!
