This week we have yet another thing to celebrate…..Brits in LA just passed the 14,000 member mark!
This is quite a landmark for us and we’re especially proud that we show no signs of slowing down, with 4,000 members new members just the last two years. If you are a member of our ever-growing Facebook group you already know that it is made up of people scattered across the globe. Not everyone is British and some don’t even live in LA!
If you come to our weekly Breakfast Club at Cecconis or to our Pub Quiz at the Cat and Fiddle, you will meet a great cross section of people. Of course a large proportion do hail from the United Kingdom, but we are very proud that our community has also become a bustling mecca for many nationalities including Italians, Germans, Australians, Brazilians, Norwegians, Americans(of course!) and even a few visitors from as far away as South Africa have stopped in. Ranging in age from 1 to 91, some having arrived in LA only a few days before and others have been here for over 40 years, but the common bond we have is that we all are in need of a few friendly faces and a nice chat.…and who doesn’t?
Didn’t we all hope that America was just like the TV shows we watched growing up? Turns out my version of the USA is just like ‘Cheers’ – ‘Where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came.’
I’m quite relieved it turned out this way…as I was worried it was going to be more like the Dukes of Hazzard or The A-Team!

It’s less than two weeks away until the World Cup! The football party kicks off with host country Russia v Saudi Arabia on June 14th and England open their campaign against Tunisia on June 18th at 11am local time. It’s a Monday morning so we won’t be planning an official event but we will post a list of all the bars that will be open for it. Email us if you want to let us know where you will be watching and who you will be rooting for. FIFA have put up a handy match schedule which you can download here at tinyurkl.com/whenisthematch
The past few World Cups have been a bit of a disappointment…do you think if we had a combined United Kingdom team we would be in with a chance of winning? Let us know!
