Boyle Boils! Danny quits after refusing to kill off 007!

‘Bond 25‘ has been turned on its head yet again as claims and counter-claims swirled around director Danny Boyle decision to quit the movie. First we heard it was over ‘creative differences’, then it emerged that the Oscar-winner and his producers were in disagreement over casting an unknown actor as the villain. But this week it was claimed Boyle quit over ‘ridiculous’ plot demands that would’ve required him to kill off Agent 007 at the end of the film.

The spy flick is touted as Daniel Craig‘s final turn playing the iconic British agent, and a pivotal moment in the franchise. When the Craig took over the role he transformed the character into a deeply flawed and complex human rather than the cheesy perfect caricature it had become in the Pierce Brosnan years. Clearly, with Craig about to hang up his bow tie, the franchise is in dire need of a huge reboot.

Fans certainly appear eager to see a new type of man (or woman) play Bond and many were disappointed when Idris Elba confirmed last week that he won’t be the next 007.

It’s way past time for a James Bond of the 21st century, and as many fans suggested when Elba was a top candidate, the producers can just kill this version of the character when Craig leaves the franchise. Certainly no one would like to see the character dead more than Craig himself, who once said he’d rather slit his wrists than play James Bond again (and yet he is).

A source told The Sun that Craig and producer Barbara Broccoli wanted Bond to die in a “spectacular finale,” which Boyle said was “ridiculous.”

“There were discussions about killing off Bond in dramatic fashion at the end,” a source told The Sun.

“It would also leave it open for a twist in the next installment—either Bond hadn’t died or there could be a Doctor Who-esque regeneration with a new actor.”

OO7-er!
