Meet A Member: Marc Cowan

Meet Marc Cowan from England who moved to LA, a year ago to pursue his dream of living in the USA through obtaining an EB1 Visa and working in Operations & Logistics.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

I truly believe the quality of life that you gain by living in LA is like no other place in the world. The outdoor lifestyle in Southern California and busy atmosphere with many entrepreneurial attitudes of individuals who live here, not only inspires me but matches with my own entrepreneurial mindset to change the world and better other peoples’ lives. Therefore when I was headhunted and given the opportunity to live in the USA again, it certainly was something that I couldn’t let pass me by. I then began working on my visa to make it happen.

What do you miss most from home?

I’m going to miss my family, my friends, my dog and certainly a real English cup of tea! (It just doesn’t compare anywhere else in the world – I’ve tried) However I’ll certainly be visiting and with today’s technologies, it’s easier to stay in touch than ever before. Everyone will only be a phone call away and luckily there are even some British shops in LA to satisfy my sweet tooth for some English biscuits and Cadbury’s chocolate!

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

My first impression of LA, was always that it was a beautiful part of the world which was busy, with things always going on.  LA has certainly surpassed my expectations as I continue to find out more about the city and venture to special gems all around, while meeting great people!

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus England?

It certainly has to be the quality of life and the weather. The weather here truly changes your life and makes every day so colourful and bright. You can’t go wrong when everyone is happy because it’s such a lovely day outside!

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

Either a lovely drive throughout Mulholland drive during sunset or Whiskey Red’s at Fishermans Village in Marina Del Rey!

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

I would certainly say to make sure they have a reliable and great immigration lawyer before they get started. I was denied twice for my visa before I was finally accepted. If you have a great immigration lawyer, you will always ensure you increase your chances and more importantly, they’re there to support you and they will also know what they’re talking about. Please ask me, if you ever wish to use the same one I did and which worked for me.

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you can give?

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity. You’re living in a city with so much opportunity, therefore never forget to place yourself in the best situations in order to prepare for your future and make luck happen and dreams come true.

Lastly, how can we find out more about you ? Are you working on anything at the moment?

You can find me on Facebook! just PM me 🙂 and I’ll be happy to help!
