Meet A Member: Alex Kordek

Meet Alex Kordek from Bearsted in Kent, who moved to LA in September 2019 to pursue his dream to work as a creative director & choreographer in LA.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

Yes, the main reason was to develop and further my career in the entertainment industry. I’ve been offered some amazing opportunities here and I’m extremely driven and I wanted to challenge myself, as you only grow as person when you put yourself out of your comfort zone. The second reason was the lovely sunshine and general vibrant atmosphere that I experienced when visiting LA as a tourist.

What do you miss most from home?

I miss my family and friends and M&S of course (ha ha!) But apart from that I don’t really miss much – I was ready for a change.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

My first impression of LA was that it was a bit shabby and scary when I first visited, but that was mainly because I had a bad glamping experience in a sketchy part of Hollywood – lets just say a nightmare accomodation situation that I won’t forget. But now my experience of LA is all the glitz and glam – just like the movies!

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus London?

SPACE! There is so much space in LA and I love to walk around as I have the sidewalks to myself. In London it’s more a case of being elbowed off the pavement by lots of crowds.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

Yes! I discovered a place (with a fellow Brits in LA member) called “Friends Street” in the Palisades that leads to the most amazing view over Santa Monica and the ocean, it was such a magical moment and one I will treasure and re-visit.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

Do your research thoroughly and give yourself lots of time. It’s not easy place to just get up and go. Visit as much as you can prior to making the move so you can figure all the aspects out and give yourself plenty of time to plan accommodation. And make sure you get to Brits In LA on Tuesdays – I got my best advice from making friends in the group.

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

You never know what’s around the corner here. It might take time to settle in LA but keep optimistic and be open minded for every opportunity that can come your way. Be very proactive and on the ball!

Lastly, how can we find out more about you? Are you working on anything at the moment?

I’m currently working with some A-list celebrities preparing them for press shoots, red carpet events and TV interviews. I’m also the creative director/choreographer for a music video involving a female rapper which is really exciting. We are hoping it will go viral as it’s a unique concept and has never been done before! I’m constantly having meetings about new projects and there’s a lot of great things lined up for the future, so watch this space.
