Local Brits…always achieving

Hello Everyone! We were quite overwhelmed with all the love we received in response to announcing that Brits in LA turned 15 years old last week. It provoked so many memories and reminded me of all the fun we’ve had over the years. It also highlighted not just how much we have grown as an organization but also how so many of you have reached or even surpassed the high expectations you had set yourself before embarking on your LA story.

So thank you very much for the enjoyable trip down memory lane.

This week we want to use this platform to give a shout out to some of our members who have been brave enough to share their excitement about their latest achievements.

First up is Peter Meech. He has directed a mystery thriller, AROUND ROBIN, that will be playing at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival at LA Live at the Regal cinemas on September 1st, at 9:00 pm.

The film stars British actress Clementine Nicholson (Underworld: Blood Wars, Knightfall), Torrance Coombs (Reign), Ann Pirvu (Reign), Peter Meech as well as another Brits in LA member Erin Gavin!

Tickets can be purchased at the festival website below.

Next we would like to give a big round of applause to Darren Darnborough; many of you may recall just how instrumental he was to Brits in LA during our formative years but more importantly he is also an extremely talented actor and has a new movie out this week – GROUNDSWELL is now available to watch on the Hallmark channel – it was shot in Hawaii, which is probably one of the most appealing locations to book a job in – over the years, I’ve known many an actor accept a job in the Aloha State before even reading the script properly! So well done DD, you jammy dodger!

Another one of our founding members has also been filming in a highly desired location. This time the Catskills serves as the backdrop for THE SHUROO PROCESS (or THE SHUROO RETREAT if you are currently in the UK) written and directed by Emrhys Cooper – it’s now available to stream on various platforms.

It would be remiss of us to not mention that one of our most avid supporters, Paul Oakenfold has just published his autobiography, “Ready Steady Go: My Unstoppable Journey in Dance” Get yourself a copy at this link: linktr.ee/ReadySteadyGo

Octavia Goredema

It’s only just dawned on me whilst writing this that all the members I’ve highlighted so far are male.. (except for the very brief mention of Erin Gavin who is starring in the film Around Robin). I suspect that’s partially because boys are often encouraged to be proud of their achievements whereas girls are get labeled as ‘show offs’ if they follow suit. Which we all know is rather silly – especially in this day and age. So I can’t think of anyone better to help change that perception than Octavia Goredema- an award-winning career coach who has just released a book called ‘PREP, PUSH, PIVOT – Essential Career Strategies for Underrepresented Women’. Available wherever you usually purchase books from or visit OctaviaGoredema.com -sounds like something many of us need to read asap!

Don’t forget if you can’t afford to be buying books at the moment you can always put in a request at the your local library and they can order it in for you free of charge.

If you have some news you would like us to shout from the rooftops drop us a line at hello@britsin.la

Cheers!
