The British American Business Council’s annual Christmas luncheon in Santa Monica was another roaring success with guest speaker Stephen Fry wowing attendees with his trademark erudition and wit.

Held at the Fairmont Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica last Friday, the event drew many prominent local business leaders and personalities from the local British community. In addition to guest speaker Fry entertainment was provided by, among others, Peter Asher from Peter and Gordon fame. Guests were serenaded upon arrival by traditional Scottish bagpipes, and there was usual compliment of fabulous silent auction and raffle prizes, including transatlantic air travel and other luxury items.      Among the prominent local Brits we spied were Phil Elwell, founder and longtime owner of Ye Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica, who along with wife Ruth, now makes his home in the desert; TV’s Nigel Lythgoe, longtime local immigration attorney Bernard Sidman and even our own Sandro Monetti. There was even a fellow who looked a bit like Santa, but we can’t say for sure…

Thanks to the BABC LA for putting on another memorable Christmas bash. See you next year.
