Self-Help: just a confidence trick?

Paul McKenna’s self-help book offers techniques to boost self-confidence, whatever your starting point…

“Russell Brand uses the techniques in this book before he walks on stage and does a performance,” says  I Can Make You Confident author Paul McKenna. “He talks about this quite openly. Darryl Hannah used it before she performed in London’s West End…and got rave reviews.”

“What holds people back from being confident is usually their thoughts and beliefs about themselves,” says McKenna. “It’s their fears. I’m helping people reprogram themselves. Whether it’s confidence for going on a job interview or confidence for going on a date or confidence in giving a presentation. Public speaking is now the largest phobia in the United States. For any of those reasons this book with its hypnosis CD can help you.”

I Can Make You Confident offers simple and effective exercises to boost your confidence and self-esteem. The book included hypnosis CD to help you improve positive thoughts and feelings. You can improve all aspects of your life, anywhere you may have difficulty. This book will help you deal with the stresses in your life that can effect your confidence. The CD is about 30 minutes long. “You relax for about 25 minutes into a profound state of relaxation,” says McKenna. “It’s like a guided mediation. In that process I reprogram your unconscious mind.”

“Right now a lot of people need confidence,” says McKenna. “We’re in uncertain economic times.  There’s terrorism. People are concerned about their jobs. There’s never been a greater need. I work with all kinds of different people who have confidence issues…people who are in a very bad place…and confident people who would like to be even more confident.”

McKenna says he decided to write this book several years ago. “Even though it takes about six months to write one of these books, they actually take years because I’m working with people on a one-to-one basis. I’d been working with people for about 25 years helping them to make changes in their lives. I’m working with people who’ve lost all of their confidence because they’ve been through some sort of trauma. Or, I’m working with someone who just needs a lift, who needs to be in a better place. Or, with someone who can make very big decisions in one area, but not in another.”

“This is not a book about being more assertive,” says McKenna. A lot of people mistake confidence for assertiveness. People who are pushy, aggressive, are actually lacking in confidence. They’re over-compensating.”

McKenna is already working on his next book. “I’ve just finished it for the UK. It’s called I Can Make You Happy. I’ve been working with people who are very unhappy and depressed. And I’ve been working with people who are quite happy and just feeling a bit down or want to be more happy than they presently are. That book is in its final stages.”

McKenna is based in Los Angeles. He was born in London. McKenna’s website is www.McKenna.com.
