License to thrill: Cohen set to spoof Bond…

[adrotate group=”9″]

Funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen is set to parody the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond, in a new comedy flick.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Studios have bought a pitch from Baron Cohen and his writing partner Phil Johnston for an untitled spoof about a spy.

Although the movie has not yet been given a title, reports suggest the plot will follow a 007-type character who goes on the run with his long-lost brother, a stupid soccer hooligan.

The comic-turned-actor, who recently appeared as Admiral General Aladeen in The Dictator, may take a role in the film if his schedule allows. Though insiders say if he does, then Baron Cohen is more likely to take on the role of the dumb sibling instead of the spy.

Baron Cohen shot to fame in the UK with his faux rapper character Ali G, before making the move to Hollywood with the side-splitting comedies Borat and Bruno.

Bond is no stranger to parody, recent film efforts include Mike Myers in the Austin Powers trilogy, along with the Rowan Atkinson comedies Johnny English and Johnny English Reborn.

Baron Cohen will next be seen alongside Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the big screen adaptation of Les Misérables, which is due in December 2012. He is also attached to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a biopic that is currently in development.

Screenwriter Johnston previously wrote the script for the 2011-film Cedar Rapids. He also contributed to Disney’s upcoming film Wreck-it Ralph and Alexander Payne’s film Nebraska.

Sounds like an interesting idea… And here’s how Sacha might look in the role in my mock-up pic…
